IV Sedation
IV sedation is a safe and effective solution for patients who experience dental anxiety or require complex procedures such as wisdom teeth extractions. This sedation technique allows you to remain in a deeply relaxed state while still being responsive, ensuring a stress-free and painless dental experience. Administered directly into the bloodstream, IV sedation takes effect quickly and can be adjusted throughout the procedure for optimal comfort. At Aspiring Smiles Dental, we prioritise your safety and use the latest sedation methods to make your visit as smooth and comfortable as possible.
What Is Intravenous (IV) Sedation?
Intravenous sedation, often referred to as “twilight” or “conscious sedation”, involves administering medication directly into the bloodstream to help you feel calm, drowsy, and deeply relaxed throughout your dental treatment. While under IV sedation, you’ll remain conscious and able to respond to verbal cues, but you’ll feel as though you’re in a dream-like state—most patients remember little or nothing about the procedure afterward. You will breathe on your own, but feel completely at ease.
IV sedation is ideal for patients who want a higher level of comfort without being fully unconscious. It makes long or complex dental procedures feel shorter, and more manageable, without stress or pain.
At Aspiring Smiles Dental, we work in collaboration with a Specialist Anaesthetist to provide IV sedation in our clinic setting on a monthly basis—ensuring the highest standard of safety and care.
On the day of treatment, our specialist anaesthetist will administer the sedation and monitor you closely throughout the procedure.
After treatment, you’ll need someone to drive you home and stay with you for the rest of the day, as it may take several hours for the effects to fully wear off.
Before your procedure, you’ll have a detailed consultation to assess your medical history and determine whether IV sedation is right for you.
